Terms of Service

Unbound: AI Life Sim | Effective August 30, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Unbound: AI Life Sim, also known as Unbound: AI Text RPG (the "App"), provided by Mark Richard Daoust ("we", "us", or "our"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. Our Privacy Policy explains how we process information.

1. The service

Unbound is a fictional, AI-powered life simulation with single-player and multiplayer features. It generates stories and game outcomes from player actions and the state of the game. It uses OpenRouter to access third-party AI models. The models, providers, and routing used may change.

We do not guarantee any particular model, provider, response style, character behavior, or game outcome. AI responses may contain mistakes, inconsistencies, offensive material, or unexpected results, despite safeguards. They are not individually reviewed before being shown.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 and meet any higher minimum age required by the App's store rating or applicable law. If you are not old enough to enter into these Terms yourself, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to them on your behalf where required by law.

The App uses an anonymous Firebase account to associate progress and purchases with a player. You are responsible for access to your device. Losing access to that account, clearing app data, or uninstalling the App may affect your ability to recover progress or account-linked consumables. Restoration of eligible purchases depends on the purchase type, store rules, and available verification records.

3. Multiplayer

In multiplayer, players begin with generated characters at age 0 in a shared starting town. Characters may move later. Your chosen display name identifies you to other room participants and is separate from your generated character name. Do not use a display name that impersonates someone or exposes another person's private information.

Actions are processed one at a time in the shared world. The shared age advances after every living player selects Age Up. Network problems, player inactivity, and service failures may delay an action or age-up. The server's recorded game state determines results.

The goal is to outlive the other characters. Players can cooperate, investigate, compete, or take fictional actions that negatively affect other characters, including actions that may result in a character's death. Game losses, injuries, financial changes, and deaths concern fictional characters, not real people. Participating in competitive gameplay does not permit real-world threats, harassment, doxxing, or abuse.

Share room codes only with intended participants. A person with a room code may be able to join while entry is open. There is no dedicated room chat in this version, but names, actions, and game results can still communicate information to others.

Other participants can receive character and room information. Individual story perspectives do not make your actions confidential. Finished-game recaps can reveal actions and outcomes for multiple players, and other participants may save or share material they can access. See the Privacy Policy for details. Multiplayer results and awards have no cash value.

4. Your input and generated content

• You are responsible for the names, text, choices, and other content you submit.
• You must have the rights needed to submit your content and must respect other people's rights.
• Do not enter passwords, sensitive personal information, or another person's private information into gameplay.
• Gameplay input and relevant context may be sent through OpenRouter to AI providers, including shared multiplayer context.
• Generated content is fictional. It is not medical, legal, financial, professional, or safety advice.
• We may filter, refuse, rewrite, or otherwise moderate requests and generated content to address safety and service requirements.

You retain any rights you have in your submitted content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, reproduce, and display that content as needed to provide the requested service, operate shared games, address safety reports, and comply with legal obligations, including through our service providers. This license does not give us ownership of your content and is subject to applicable privacy rights and the retention practices described in the Privacy Policy.

AI output may not be unique or protected by copyright. We do not guarantee exclusive ownership of generated content or that it will be suitable for uses outside the game. Provider terms and applicable law may also affect your rights in output.

5. Safety and prohibited conduct

You must not:

• Request sexual content involving minors, exploitative sexual content, hate content, or instructions intended to facilitate serious real-world harm.
• Harass, threaten, stalk, exploit, unlawfully discriminate against, or expose private information about a real person.
• Use fictional gameplay as a way to direct threats or abusive content at another player.
• Impersonate others, infringe intellectual-property rights, or submit content you have no right to share.
• Gain unauthorized access to accounts, rooms, databases, credentials, or backend systems, or extract information you are not authorized to access.
• Use modified clients, bots, scripts, duplicate accounts, or exploits to cheat, disrupt multiplayer, bypass limits, or obtain unauthorized rewards.
• Manipulate purchase verification, referral redemption, advertisements, energy balances, or other service restrictions.
• Intentionally overload or interfere with the App or its providers, or reverse-engineer the App except where applicable law permits it.

Use the Report feature where available to flag objectionable story content. For multiplayer issues or content without a Report control, contact contact@jamesd.tech with relevant room and event details. Do not include unnecessary personal information. We may review reported material and restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address abuse, fraud, security risks, legal requirements, or violations of these Terms. Reporting is not an emergency service.

6. Purchases and digital benefits

The App may offer optional energy packs, revive uses, modes, upgrades, or other digital benefits. Available products, prices, and benefits are shown before purchase. Apple App Store or Google Play processes purchases made through that store under its applicable terms and refund policies. We do not process your payment-card details.

Energy packs and revive uses are consumable products. Using them reduces the corresponding balance. A non-consumable product, where offered, provides the benefit described in its listing. Do not assume a purchase applies to every game mode or platform unless its description says so. Eligible non-consumable purchases may be restored through the App's restoration feature under the store's rules.

Except as required by law or store policy, game balances and digital items are not transferable, redeemable for cash, or stored monetary value. A purchase does not guarantee a particular story outcome, lifespan, or multiplayer victory. Any stated amount of energy or other benefit remains subject to the product description shown when purchased.

We may change future prices or offerings without removing rights that applicable law or store rules require us to honor. Refund requests follow the relevant store's process, without limiting your statutory rights.

Subscriptions, if offered

Subscription price, billing period, benefits, renewal terms, and any trial conditions will be shown before purchase. Auto-renewing subscriptions continue unless canceled under the relevant store's rules. Manage or cancel them through your Apple or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the App or your Unbound account does not cancel a subscription.

7. Energy, advertisements, and referral rewards

Energy and usage limits manage access to AI-powered features. Free grants, resets, costs, and eligible rewards are governed by the rules displayed in the App. These rules may change prospectively, subject to applicable law and commitments made when a product was purchased.

Optional rewarded ads are served by Google AdMob and its partners. Rewards depend on eligibility and completion verification. Ads may be unavailable or fail to load, and availability is not guaranteed.

Where referrals are available, an eligible player may redeem another player's referral code to receive the displayed reward for the applicable accounts. Self-referrals, duplicate-account farming, automation, and fraudulent redemptions are prohibited. Rewards may be withheld or reversed for abuse, subject to applicable law. Rewards have no cash value.

8. Availability and saved games

The App depends on network access and third-party services. Outages, model failures, bugs, updates, and other technical issues may affect access, progress, room activity, and game results. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or recovery of every lost game.

We may maintain, update, rebalance, add, or retire features as the service changes. Any changes affecting paid benefits remain subject to applicable consumer law and store rules.

9. Account deletion

Use Delete My Data from the main menu to delete your anonymous account and the data covered by that process. Deletion can permanently remove access to progress and account-linked benefits. The Privacy Policy describes the records deleted, retained records, and the current limitation affecting multiplayer room data. Deleting an account does not automatically cancel subscriptions or provide a refund.

10. App ownership and third-party services

The App's software, branding, interface, and other proprietary components are owned by or licensed to us. Subject to these Terms and applicable store rules, you may use the App for personal, non-commercial gameplay. This permission does not transfer ownership of the App.

The App depends on providers including OpenRouter, AI model providers, Firebase, AdMob, Apple, and Google Play. Their services may be subject to separate terms and policies. We cannot guarantee their availability or unchanged functionality. Nothing in these Terms excludes responsibilities we have for our providers under applicable law.

11. Warranties and liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the App and generated content are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of accuracy, uninterrupted availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. You should not rely on fictional content when making real-world decisions.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Mark Richard Daoust and those providing the App will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use the App, including loss of game progress or reliance on generated content.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or removes mandatory consumer rights. Any exclusion that is not permitted in your jurisdiction does not apply to you.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as features, providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and give additional notice or seek agreement where required. Continued use after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by law. If you do not agree, stop using the App, subject to any rights you retain under applicable law.

13. Governing law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections require otherwise. This choice does not deprive you of protections or rights to bring claims available under applicable law where you live.
